Why we exist

Somewhere along the way, ownership turned into rental. Your photos, your searches, your conversations, your calendar, even your house - all of it runs on someone else's computer now, paid for by subscription and by the data it produces about you. The devices got nicer. The deal got worse.

DecentAI is the alternative in hardware form: a computer that lives in your home, runs open-source services on your own hardware, and sends nothing anywhere. No account required to use it. No telemetry. No phoning home.

You're not buying a device. You're buying ownership.

What we believe

• Privacy is the default, not a setting. Advanced capabilities ship switched off. The core works with nothing enabled that you did not enable.
• Ownership over rental. Everything core runs on the device forever, with no subscription and no phone-home. Updates happen when you ask for them.
• Honest claims only. Nothing is presented as working unless it is demonstrated working on real hardware. What is not ready does not appear.
• No forced accounts. Not for the device, not for your files. Your services use your own login, on your device.
• We rank our priorities in public: privacy first, ownership second, speed third. When they conflict, that is the order we choose in.

How we build

Local models are the easy part to copy - the point is the bundle around them. DecentAI ships the services a household actually uses - search, knowledge, passwords, photos, music, budget, automation, network protection, messaging, and honest status - running together on one box, behind one private front door.

The discipline matches the promise: package signing is mandatory, bundled service updates wait for security review, and every screen we show is a capture from a real device, not a mockup.

Where we are

• October 1, 2026 - public announcement of existence. This site, and the waitlist.
• November 15, 2026 - Kickstarter launch, with founding-backer pricing for the earliest backers.
• After funding - the first production run. Units ship when they are finished and tested; nothing ships that is not demonstrated working on real hardware.
